The House of Bread · Note for 20250717 – Acts – Part 4 – Acts 4 – In Common

Acts 4:1-37 KJV

[1] And as they spake unto the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees, came upon them, [2] being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead. [3] And they laid hands on them, and put them in hold unto the next day: for it was now eventide. [4] Howbeit many of them which heard the word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand. [5] And it came to pass on the morrow, that their rulers, and elders, and scribes, [6] and Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem. [7] And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this? [8] Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, [9] if we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole; [10] be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. [11] This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. [12] Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. [13] Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus. [14] And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it. [15] But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves, [16] saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it. [17] But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name. [18] And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. [19] But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye. [20] For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard. [21] So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done. [22] For the man was above forty years old, on whom this miracle of healing was shewed. [23] And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them. [24] And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is: [25] Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, And the people imagine vain things? [26] The kings of the earth stood up, And the rulers were gathered together Against the Lord, and against his Christ. [27] For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together, [28] for to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done. [29] And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, [30] by stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus. [31] And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness. [32] And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common. [33] And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. [34] Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, [35] and laid them down at the apostles’ feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need. [36] And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus, [37] having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

Note for 20250717

Friends, to understand this better, in short, Peter and John got into trouble with the authorities of that time, for doing the right thing. They did which they were given instruction to do, to testify of Jesus Christ before all people. And when they were threatened, the whole congregation prayed together for baldness to speak. But, what we read today is not hard to hear, or to understand, is it?

I suppose, for some it may be heard to hear the nature of this early church, how they had all things in common and how owners of land sold it, and brought the money and laid it by the feet of the apostles. Some might even have issues with the fact that they were one in the Spirit, while others might find it hard to believe that the earth shook and all were filled with the Holy Spirit to speak with baldness.

I would like to look at the concept of “in common” plays out today. We have what is, and then what should be. What should be in the scripture today, but what is in place today? What do people have in common?

People congregate in stadiums, because they have a certain sport in common. In shopping malls, because they have shopping in common. In clubs they gather, because they have in common what they can have in that club. In party, because they have viewpoints in common. On the Frontline, because they have war in common. Do they have murder in common, friends?

But, today we no longer only have these types of congregations, since the internet expanded, people can also congregate in a virtual world. So those who have gambling in common will congregate to those sites, while others will congregate on platforms and forums. I am sure I do not have to expand further on that, enough can be read between the lines.

The question today to each of us is, what do we have in common with who? Let me quote a verse to you to show you an example:

Romans 7:7 KJV

[7] What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.

https://bible.com/bible/1/rom.7.7.KJV

So, what is the yearning of the heart? What is it that we feed in these congregations and have things in common with others? What is it that your soul lusts for? What are the things that you covet?

Peter and John and those that joined them at this shaking of the earth desired to have baldness to speak despite the threats from the council. Look how Peter answers them:

Acts 4:19 KJV

[19] But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.

https://bible.com/bible/1/act.4.19.KJV

Who do we listen to (or hearken unto?) Who do we want to please, man or GOD? Do we have that in common? Or do we have in common that we are served and pleased? For a full effect, let me write it in a way that might put you on your toes. Who’s will do we want to be done? A President’s, or maybe even a Minister’s? I know, the last one is tricky, right? So, to be clear, do we follow a preacher or the One he preaches of? Where does your commonality lay? What makes people congregate in any of the forms that we looked at today? Even people that want to eat often eat together, don’t they? And, while the next quote must be taken with understanding, it must be known:

2 Corinthians 6:14 KJV

[14] Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

https://bible.com/bible/1/2co.6.14.KJV

Sure, light is to lighten darkness, but we are given the light, not be snuffed out by iniquity. I hope you understand, I pray that the Holy Spirit will guide you in this with wisdom. To put in an easier phrasing, you must rub off on them, not they on you. You are there to bring light to a dark corner.

Today’s title, “in common,” is to alert you of the spirit in which things are done. In other words, do we walk after the Spirit or the flesh? (Romans 8:1 consider)

Friends, being saved, do not be lured into darkness again or have communion with demons.

1 Corinthians 10:20-21 KJV

[20] But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils. [21] Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.

https://bible.com/bible/1/1co.10.20-21.KJV

Come out of her, friends. Is that said plain enough? Now, in our time, we are immersed into the mire, the filth of the wickedness of this age. So, question yourselves, what do you have in common with those you congregate with? Is it really as innocent as what you may think?

GOD has a Master Plan for the Salvation of the souls of mankind, but Satan has a master plan too. Don’t think for one moment he is not encamped against you. We are protected by GOD, but still the enemy lusts to have you.

Acts 3:1-26 KJV

[1] Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour. [2] And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple; [3] who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms. [4] And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. [5] And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them. [6] Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. [7] And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. [8] And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God. [9] And all the people saw him walking and praising God: [10] and they knew that it was he which sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him. [11] And as the lame man which was healed held Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon’s, greatly wondering. [12] And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk? [13] The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go. [14] But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you; [15] and killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses. [16] And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all. [17] And now, brethren, I wot that through ignorance ye did it, as did also your rulers. [18] But those things, which God before had shewed by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled. [19] Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; [20] and he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: [21] whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began. [22] For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. [23] And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people. [24] Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days. [25] Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed. [26] Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.

I know. It seems like a strange title. Once more, we are dealing in today’s reading with something you might have heard and know about, especially of the phrasing: Silver and gold have I none.. This we know, it is not an uncommon teaching. Nor, of healing that comes from Christ, I myself have shared my own account as testimony for Jesus Christ.

Acts 3:14 KJV

[14] But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you;

https://bible.com/bible/1/act.3.14.KJV

No, I want to look at this verse with you today, as Peter shared with those marveling about the healing the lame beggar received. Peter does not “pull his punches” speaking to those present at Solomon’s Porch and remind them that it is by the same Christ whom they denied, that this man was healed.

Do we deny Jesus Christ?

Acts 3:26 KJV

[26] Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.

https://bible.com/bible/1/act.3.26.KJV

Christ came to them in the flesh, friends. But, how does He turn them away from their iniquities? Granted, what I speak of requires understanding, but since the Holy Spirit is sent in the Name of Jesus Christ by our Father in Heaven, walking away from sin can not be credited to us. No, but it is Christ working in us by the same Holy Spirit that heals the spiritually lame, to walk in His Name. We are healed from within, as we are shown the way to walk by the Holy Ghost. If we don’t, then we deny the power of Christ from working in us. Jesus deserves the Glory for the good that we do, for before we were saved, we were caught in iniquity and sinned without end. It is the Holy Spirit of GOD that reminds of what Christ said, Ministering to us from within.

So, as much as Peter and John were short in coin, we might be today. But, do we give from what we have to give in Jesus Christ, or deny Him? Do we remain silent in our testimony, when we are presented the opportunity to glorify His Name? Do we give Christ to others, or do we claim some fame unto ourselves of how Holy we have become and what we achieved? That is a form of denial too. For, the good that comes of us, is through Jesus Christ, by His Blood and by The Comforter that He prayed our Father in Heaven to send unto us. Before, we were just like those we look upon, who we should be Ministering to instead of looking down on them as if we are somehow more than them.

Yet, Peter was not wrong that those he was addressing here on Temple Mount were part of the mob that insisted that Christ be crucified. I am just wondering, if our denial of Christ within is something like that?

Matthew 10:32-33 KJV

[32] Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. [33] But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

https://bible.com/bible/1/mat.10.32-33.KJV

Does the heading still seem strange to you now? Because, to me, this is a major wake up call to testify for Christ even when I think it better to remain quiet on a matter. The one thing I am most grateful for is that there is such a stark contrast in me of the before and after Christ periods in my life and the testimony of Christ that I have been afforded to have. Yes, it required my face to be bruised and broken, but by the healing I received I have an undeniable testimony in me. Better still, that the miracle even ministered and testified to the very doctor that wanted to help me. Even he can not claim a part in the healed man I see in the mirror today, and he knows it. Just like this lame man that was restored, I was restored to the wonder of those who know me. A bigger gift than that I have received in the Spirit of GOD, that the innerman received a healing within that turned me away from my iniquities, just as the scripture said here today and it is undeniable by me, and even those that knew me before and now.

Shall we deny a testimony for Jesus Christ in us? Or worse, claim fame and honour for ourselves? What has Christ done for you? Do you testify of that before men?

Selah, Shalom

The House of Bread · Note for 20250715 – Acts – Part 2 – Acts 2 – Pentecost

Acts 2:1-47 KJV

[1] And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. [2] And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. [3] And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. [4] And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. [5] And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. [6] Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. [7] And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilæans? [8] And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? [9] Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judæa, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, [10] Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, [11] Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God. [12] And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this? [13] Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine. [14] But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judæa, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words: [15] For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day. [16] But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; [17] And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, And your young men shall see visions, And your old men shall dream dreams: [18] And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: [19] And I will shew wonders in heaven above, And signs in the earth beneath; Blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: [20] The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before that great and notable Day of the Lord come: [21] And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. [22] Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know: [23] him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain: [24] whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it. [25] For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, For he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved: [26] Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; Moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope: [27] Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, Neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. [28] Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; Thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance. [29] Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. [30] Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; [31] he seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. [32] This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. [33] Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. [34] For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, [35] Until I make thy foes thy footstool. [36] Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. [37] Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? [38] Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. [39] For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. [40] And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. [41] Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. [42] And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. [43] And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. [44] And all that believed were together, and had all things common; [45] and sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. [46] And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, [47] praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

https://bible.com/bible/1/act.2.1-47.KJV

Note for 20250715

Surely by now all of you have heard this account? And yet, speaking in tongues is highly controversial, many to this day frowning on that. Paul had some to say on this matter of speaking in tongues, but as you could read for yourselves here, there were those that could interpret what was being said. That being one of the conditions Paul mentions. If you want to read more in that, you can find it in 1 Corinthians 14, I will only quote a small section of it because there is something I want to show you, which you might not know. There is another gifting that is both here in Acts 2, and Paul gives a higher value to, let us look at that:

1 Corinthians 14:1-5 KJV

[1] Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy. [2] For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. [3] But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort. [4] He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church. [5] I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.

https://bible.com/bible/1/1co.14.1-5.KJV

Now, look at what Peter speaks about what was written by the prophet Joel. (Joel 2:28-32)

Acts 2:17-18 KJV

[17] And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, And your young men shall see visions, And your old men shall dream dreams: [18] And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

https://bible.com/bible/1/act.2.17-18.KJV

Do you remember how we looked at the matter of what the Holy Spirit will do when He has come? How, He will remind us of what Christ said and show us of things to come?

Yesterday, we had much to say, but today I want to ask you, where are your Prophecies, where are those gifted with prophesying as Peter, Joel and Paul spoke of? Some will point to Christ speaking of John the Baptist, that all prophecy came until him.

Matthew 11:13 KJV

[13] For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.

https://bible.com/bible/1/mat.11.13.KJV

We are somewhat reluctant to hear prophets, aren’t we? You know what, in the Old Testament they killed the prophets. The matter of prophecy is highly contentious, and yet Christ clearly said that the Holy Spirit will show us of things to come. Maybe, I should give you Revelation 19:10 again, or do you remember by now that the Testimony of Jesus Christ is the Spirit of Prophecy?

So, where are the warnings of the times you are living in? Maybe I should say it like this, who is calling you to repentance and to walk away from iniquity, as the prophets of old did too? The same warning is within the Spirit filled believer, and He shares that which He hears of the Spirit and the written Word of GOD confirms.

Looking at the early church can become uncomfortable for the modern day believer. Would you rather have me speak on how they sold everything and have all in common to meet everyone’s needs?

Acts 2:44-45 KJV

[44] And all that believed were together, and had all things common; [45] and sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.

https://bible.com/bible/1/act.2.44-45.KJV

“That was back then, we live in modern times now,” some reply when we look at these matters. Old school stuff, right? Wrong! The modern church and believers have walked away from the original doctrine of Christ and His apostles, friends. It may appear impossible by modern standards, but we stand in a “fall away” time period.

Question: Who of you heard the last song in yesterday’s voice note? (Now, I know right at this moment it is not available to you yet, even at the recording today of this note, but by the time you read or hear this, it will be a day ago. Except for those who read on the Bible App) Who has gone to houseofbread4u.blogspot.com to look at all the references for that song? Am I testifying of Jesus Christ to you? Am I reading from the written Word of GOD to you? Where is the prophecy of what is to come contained? Is it not in this Book that was left behind for believers like you and me? Much of the prophesies in the Bible is fulfilled already, including that Elijah would come (Malachi 4,) Christ made that clear.

What about the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on all flesh, has that come as Joel prophesied? What did Peter confirm just in this chapter, or do you not believe it “like that?” You are okay if you don’t believe what I say, but once you start disbelieving the Word of GOD, you step onto perilous ground. Is it written, or not? But, many of you, yes you amongst us, have issues with the Word of GOD, full of excuses and justifications for your own iniquity. How does one repent if you think you are right?

Are you right, or are you a sinner like the rest of us who are saved by the Blood of Christ? By mercy and grace from GOD, because of His love for us? A free gift for us, paid for with the life of Jesus Christ in the most horrific way. I know for some this might be hard to hear, and so was it for those who were congregated right there in the city that crucified our Lord and Saviour. My call and cry today is not for conviction, but to salvation and redemption, that you may be spared from the second death.

This is written too:

Philippians 2:12-13 KJV

[12] Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. [13] For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

https://bible.com/bible/1/php.2.12-13.KJV

I am not the Saviour, friends; just the one who takes out the invitation to the marriage supper of the Lamb of GOD. A witness with the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Selah, Shalom

Note for 20250714 – Acts – Part 1 – Acts 1 – Power

Acts

One

Introduction to Acts

The Book of Acts, also known as The Acts of the Apostles, is the fifth book in the New Testament and serves as a vital bridge between the Gospels and the Epistles. Here’s a concise overview of its background, authorship, and purpose:

Author

  • Luke, the beloved physician and companion of the Apostle Paul, is widely accepted as the author.
  • He also wrote the Gospel of Luke, and both works are addressed to the same individual: Theophilus.
  • The writing style, vocabulary, historical accuracy, and internal evidence (especially the use of “we” sections in Acts) strongly support Luke’s authorship.

Date of Writing

  • Likely written around AD 62–64, during or shortly after Paul’s first Roman imprisonment.
  • It ends with Paul under house arrest in Rome, which suggests it was completed before his martyrdom and before major events like the destruction of the Temple in AD 70.

Historical and Theological Purpose

  • Acts continues the narrative from the Gospel of Luke, shifting the focus from Jesus’ ministry on earth to the work of the Holy Spirit through the apostles.
  • It chronicles the birth and expansion of the early Church, starting in Jerusalem, moving to Judea and Samaria, and eventually to the ends of the Roman Empire — fulfilling Jesus’ command in Acts 1:8.
  • A major emphasis is placed on Peter’s leadership among the Jews and Paul’s ministry to the Gentiles.

Key Themes

  • The Holy Spirit: Acts shows the Spirit actively empowering the Church.
  • Mission and Evangelism: The spread of the gospel is central.
  • Church Growth and Opposition: Includes miracles, conversions, persecution, and doctrinal challenges.
  • Unity of Jews and Gentiles in Christ.
  • Witness: The apostles serve as bold witnesses of Christ’s resurrection.

Outline (Simplified)

  1. Ch. 1–7: The Church in Jerusalem – led mainly by Peter.
  2. Ch. 8–12: The Gospel spreads to Judea and Samaria.
  3. Ch. 13–28: The Gospel spreads to the Gentile world – led by Paul.

The House of Bread · Note for 20250714 – Acts – Part 1 – Acts 1 – Power

Acts 1:1-26 KJV

[1] The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, [2] until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: [3] to whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God: [4] and, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. [5] For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. [6] When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? [7] And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. [8] But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judæa, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. [9] And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. [10] And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; [11] which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. [12] Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day’s journey. [13] And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphæus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James. [14] These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren. [15] And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,) [16] Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus. [17] For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry. [18] Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out. [19] And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood. [20] For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, And let no man dwell therein: and His bishoprick let another take. [21] Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, [22] beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection. [23] And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias. [24] And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen, [25] that he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place. [26] And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

Note for 20250714

First of all, I want to welcome you to a short series on the Book of Acts. It is believed that the book of Acts was written by Luke in the time period of 60 to 64 AD, when he was with Paul in Rome, while Paul was under house arrest the first time. We see a common opening in both Luke and Acts, where the Books are addressed to Theophilus, who is a bit of a mystery. The Name itself means “GOD’S Love” or “Love of GOD,” but I myself do not have this knowledge, that is a report of it.

Of course, two major elements of the first chapter are the Ascension of Jesus Christ and the election by the lot, the Apostle Matthias. But, as believers in Jesus Christ, and being of those who have read this Book before, we know of the greater part of the account, so for us, as the heading suggests, I want us to zoom right in on the following verses, but more specifically, the significance of one word in it.

Acts 1:7-8 KJV

[7] And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. [8] But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judæa, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

https://bible.com/bible/1/act.1.7-8.KJV

Jip, the focus word is “power” and in verse 4 and 5, it hints to it as being a promise of the Father that was to be awaited. In the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, with the goal of taking the testimony of Jesus Christ, to all people.

While we are on this focus verses, please also note the sequence in the Words of Christ. First, Jerusalem, then Judah, then Samaria (there is something about Samaria that many do not know) and then the ends of the earth; which of course includes the “work” that all believers are called to do. Samaria is also a reference of what would have known previously in the Old Testament as the main area of the seat of power of the Northern Tribes of Israel. Now while that is a teaching separate from today’s teaching, it is still important to know that this points to the tribes that were separated from Judah in the time of Jerobeam, who made Israel to sin in serving Baal by the symbol of molten golden calves. Samaria’s population was a mix of people (2 Kings 17) which led to a enmity between Judah and the people of Samaria. Indeed, they were also known as Galilians or as the two men, dressed in white, addressed them as “ye men of Galilee.”

Now that a bit of background is done. Let us look at the concept of this promised “power” that was spoken of by Christ. And of course it points to the outpouring of the Holy Ghost upon them (and us.) There are so many references that we will focus on only a few scriptures briefly from the Gospel according to John (The disciple Jesus loved.)

John 14:16-18 KJV

[16] And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; [17] even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. [18] I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

https://bible.com/bible/1/jhn.14.16-18.KJV

“I will come to you.” But, let’s look at just a little earlier in this account:

John 14:12 KJV

[12] Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

https://bible.com/bible/1/jhn.14.12.KJV

It makes us wonder what has become of this power in the Holy Spirit, not? Will Christ find faith when He returns?

John 14:26-27 KJV

[26] But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. [27] Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

https://bible.com/bible/1/jhn.14.26-27.KJV

Peace, so our hearts will not be troubled. Many seem a bit bothered at the moment, not?

John 16:7-11 KJV

[7] Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. [8] And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: [9] of sin, because they believe not on me; [10] of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; [11] of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

https://bible.com/bible/1/jhn.16.7-11.KJV

Focus on verse 8, friends. What will He do, that be the Holy Spirit?

John 16:13 KJV

[13] Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

https://bible.com/bible/1/jhn.16.13.KJV

“…and shew you things to come.” It is a bit of a, “Wow!” moment, not? Now, what is “greater works” than what Christ has done? Why aren’t we seeing evidence of that in the modern church?

Only 1 of two things can be true in this, either the Holy Spirit is not heard and obeyed, or, (and this is a terrifying thought) the Holy Spirit is not in those who claim faith without works to show the fruit of the Holy Spirit. Reminds me of that fig tree without fruit that Christ encountered. It is a terrifying thought, and yet, closer to the truth than many would admit.

Let us then remind us by the words of Christ of the beatitudes. What are the things that are important?

Matthew 5:3-16 KJV

[3]  Blessed are the poor in spirit: for their’s is the kingdom of heaven. [4]  Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. [5]  Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. [6]  Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. [7]  Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. [8]  Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. [9]  Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. [10]  Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for their’s is the kingdom of heaven. [11]  Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. [12] Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. [13]  Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. [14] Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. [15] Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. [16] Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

https://bible.com/bible/1/mat.5.3-16.KJV

Are these true in your life?

2 Timothy 4:1-22 KJV

[1] I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; [2] preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. [3] For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; [4] and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. [5] But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. [6] For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. [7] I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: [8] henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. [9] Do thy diligence to come shortly unto me: [10] for Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia. [11] Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry. [12] And Tychicus have I sent to Ephesus. [13] The cloke that I left at Troas with Carpus, when thou comest, bring with thee, and the books, but especially the parchments. [14] Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him according to his works: [15] of whom be thou ware also; for he hath greatly withstood our words. [16] At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me: I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge. [17] Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. [18] And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. [19] Salute Prisca and Aquila, and the household of Onesiphorus. [20] Erastus abode at Corinth: but Trophimus have I left at Miletum sick. [21] Do thy diligence to come before winter. Eubulus greeteth thee, and Pudens, and Linus, and Claudia, and all the brethren. [22] The Lord Jesus Christ be with thy spirit. Grace be with you. Amen. The second epistle unto Timotheus, ordained the first bishop of the church of the Ephesians, was written from Rome, when Paul was brought before Nero the second time.

https://bible.com/bible/1/2ti.4.1-22.KJV

Note for 20250710

This letter, the last one according to the scholars. And before my research, also as it was placed in my heart. We do not know if he ever received his cloak or parchments, we have no more in Biblical text.

Here at the end, and it indeed seems that there is some knowing that it is near, he holds out this one last hope to see Timothy and that is clear by the coat and parchments request. He does seem to have somewhat of an issue with some that have betrayed him and left him, but the following show us what his heart was in matters:

2 Timothy 4:16 KJV

[16] At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me: I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge.

https://bible.com/bible/1/2ti.4.16.KJV

We see Paul repeat something here, that he might have heard Stephen pray while he was being stoned to death, “… Lay it not to their charge.”

As a final letter, where many look at all he said how sound doctrine will not be followed and everything around us today (essentially) is brought to sight, I want to look at this:

2 Timothy 4:2 KJV

[2] preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

https://bible.com/bible/1/2ti.4.2.KJV

“Be instant…” The immediacy of readiness in and out of season brings a stark reality for being ready in every moment, doesn’t it? Sure, we have rightfully heard about always being ready to receive the Lord Jesus Christ at His return, but there’s also the readiness to testify for Jesus Christ, and as he writes here, to be a good minister in longsuffering.

The most remarkable statement Paul makes for me here at the end is actually in his final greeting:

2 Timothy 4:22 KJV

[22] The Lord Jesus Christ be with thy spirit. Grace be with you. Amen. The second epistle unto Timotheus, ordained the first bishop of the church of the Ephesians, was written from Rome, when Paul was brought before Nero the second time.

https://bible.com/bible/1/2ti.4.22.KJV

“The Lord Jesus Christ be with thy spirit. Grace be with you. Amen.” Let me “zoom in” further: “…Christ be with thy spirit.” A little more, just one more, “thy spirit.” You have just been shown a mystery, friends. In fact, more than one. If we had to use this key, how would we then interpret the following?

1 John 4:1 KJV

[1] Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

https://bible.com/bible/1/1jn.4.1.KJV

Ephesians 6:12 KJV

[12] For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

https://bible.com/bible/1/eph.6.12.KJV

Galatians 4:19 KJV

[19] My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,

https://bible.com/bible/1/gal.4.19.KJV

Truly, I only “grabbed” the ones that came to mind in the moment. But, it does show a mystery in our faith in Jesus Christ. In fact, more so if we consider this verse:

John 14:26 KJV

[26] But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

https://bible.com/bible/1/jhn.14.26.KJV

It probably becomes most clear when I share the following too, to show you what Paul wrote to Timothy, as a blessing but so often missed:

Matthew 19:6 KJV

[6] Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

https://bible.com/bible/1/mat.19.6.KJV

Is it in full view now? Is your spirit separated unto Jesus Christ and do you have Spiritual communion? Is Christ with you? And I love that Paul’s next statement in blessing is, Grace be with you. And of course, to end it with “Amen” seals it. “So be it,” “Let it be so,” or “may it be true.”

What is it to be one in Christ? For Christ, the Living Word of GOD, to be formed in you? And what might be formed in you, in the absence of the Word of GOD in you, maybe something that resembles Ephesians 6:12? Not only does these verses bring understanding to what Paul wrote here to Timothy as “the last wave goodbye,” but it also adds to our understanding of what is in the spirit. Is it of GOD or not, and if not from GOD; who then?

James 2:26 KJV

[26] For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

https://bible.com/bible/1/jas.2.26.KJV

Here, James uses something that is commonly understood at the time to explain what faith is without good works, but, friends, look at the measure by which he measures it. Shall we look again at Genesis 2:7? Or what makes a person unclean, according to Jesus Christ? What about relating that to 1 John 1:4? Or shall we look at how Christ said, “GOD is A Spirit” or how we were made in the image of GOD, or with what we were clothed with when we were found naked by GOD in the garden?

Or are we always required to look at the other end of the “stick” then?

Hosea 4:6 KJV

[6] My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

https://bible.com/bible/1/hos.4.6.KJV

My dear friends, what is it then to be separated unto Christ Jesus and our Father in Heaven, from Whose breath we came?

The final words of Paul to Timothy speak the loudest of them all, and yet, it is said in a soft greeting, penned, not spoken. A blessing that concludes with, Amen. May Christ be with your spirit, Amen.

Selah, Shalom.

The House of Bread · Note for 20250709 – Sons in Faith – Part 13 – 2 Timothy 3 – Perilous Times

2 Timothy 3:1-17 KJV

[1] This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. [2] For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, [3] without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, [4] traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; [5] having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. [6] For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, [7] ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. [8] Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. [9] But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was. [10] But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience, [11] persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me. [12] Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. [13] But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. [14] But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; [15] and that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. [16] All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: [17] that the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

2 Timothy 3 is packed with teaching that goes much deeper than the obvious and leads into a verse that should grab every believer’s attention:

2 Timothy 3:12 KJV

[12] Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

https://bible.com/bible/1/2ti.3.12.KJV

The interesting thing about the word “all” is that it has an inclusion of every one that qualifies, excluding none. But, in a world devoid of knowledge and understanding, not even persecution is understood. Christ said that the world would hate us, because it hated Him first. And even in that statement, we see How Christ walked ahead in what we must follow. The first fruit of what He also explained to His disciples as a form of baptism He must go through. John the Baptist said of Christ that He will baptise with the Holy Spirit and with fire. In order to have better understanding, maybe I should coin it like this: Through much trials and tribulations will we enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.

But, a great deal of our reading today focuses on these that would come in opposition for us, even as the previous chapter mentions that Timothy is a soldier for Jesus Christ and speaks of warring. We further know that Paul gave instruction for the “soldiers” in Ephesians 6, which happens to be the very church Timothy was the Bishop of. Since this is the last letter by Paul I know of, we have to presume that at this point Timothy at very least had in his knowledge the contents of Paul’s letter to Ephesus. We cannot neglect the letter to Ephesus that John was to send by instruction of Jesus Christ, as we find it in Revelation 2.

Now, to truly have a grasp of what Paul is speaking about here, if we had to take a “deep dive” approach, we would have to bring in the knowledge that Timothy would have at this point, which Paul reminds him of in this very chapter. So too, would we have to have some inkling of who Jannes and Jambres was, who is not specifically mentioned in the Bible, but was known by Jewish traditions as the chief wizards of Pharaoh that opposed Moses. Friends, we have to consider that Timothy was highly informed and taught of Paul. This letter bears a sentiment of reminder, not so much teaching itself, more like an encouragement and exhortation to remain on course, instead of being overcome with grief for Paul’s current predicament. The sentiment is, “there is yet much to be done and mind.”

Now, there is an element of this perilous time that Paul speaks about that was revealed to me last night, before I even read this chapter this morning. In fact, I was taken down a bit of a “rabbit trail” which was given as a reading guide at the bottom of yesterday’s note (which will go out today) on the Blogspot post. I also have it in PDF format and it is available on request.

For days now (and those that listen to the audio note can confirm,) I have been speaking about how I have been guided that the form in which the daily notes are done will be changing. How it might not be as regular as it has been for years now, but that it might take on a form of dealing with more than one series or teaching at a time. And when I say teaching, I mean the teaching that I receive and share with you.

These that Paul writes about here, which he also explains in Ephesians 6:12-13 and why we should stand dressed in the whole Armour of GOD, speaks to who the real battle is against. For understanding, Paul uses Jannes and Jambres as examples, but so does Jude write about them, speaking of “spots in our feast of charities” and also Peter in 2 Peter 2. We are shown these as Jesus meets Legion and drives them out into a herd of pigs. You know, the ones for whom the lake of fire was prepared, where people are walking towards willingly. Yes, indeed, we are speaking of the spirit of the anti-Christ, whom Jesus said was at work already when He was still with us in the flesh. You know, those who say they are Jews but are not. Let’s look again how they are explained to Timothy here in this chapter:

2 Timothy 3:2-9 KJV

[9] But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.

https://bible.com/bible/1/2ti.3.2-9.KJV

Let us jump to Ephesians 6 and see how it is explained there:

Ephesians 6:12 KJV

[12] For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

https://bible.com/bible/1/eph.6.12.KJV

Now, today, for the first time, I am going to bring you an extract from Jude that only looks at what Paul is reminding Timothy about, but by Jude’s description of them.

Jude 1:4, 6-8, 10-19 KJV

[4] For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

[6] And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. [7] Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. [8] Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.

[10] But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves. [11] Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core. [12] These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; [13] raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever. [14] And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, [15] to execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him. [16] These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men’s persons in admiration because of advantage. [17] But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; [18] how that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts. [19] These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.

https://bible.com/bible/1/jud.1.4-19.KJV

I know this is a lot to receive in one session, but as we approach the time, even the hour of Satan, it is crucial for all to know, who might face a measure or even all of that dark hour that has been prophesied of for millennia. In fact, the urgency was apparent even in the time of Paul, Jude and Peter, how much more now.

As long as we continue to struggle against the flesh, we war not against the enemy but are subverted to focus on their captives. It is like kicking the enslaved, the one that has been abused and deceived. It is like slapping around the victim instead of arresting the criminal. I know I paint the picture grim, because it is grim, as long as we look at matters in respect of person. John also gave us a teaching on this, look:

1 John 4:1-3 KJV

[1] Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. [2] Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: [3] and every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

https://bible.com/bible/1/1jn.4.1-3.KJV

Are you starting to see the level of infiltration? Now, the alarming part of this is not what you have heard here already, the alarming part is this: This is only like an introduction to the subject. It runs deep throughout the history of mankind all the way back to that moment in the garden in Eden, with Genesis 3:15 being the first prophecy in this regard, decreed by GOD The Creator Himself.

Last night, as this was revealed to me in a fuller sense, I was overwhelmed with urgency. Because this infiltration is even in the household, but always reaches for the highest position to cause as much corruption as possible. Indeed, we can see what Jesus spoke of in Matthew 25:41

Matthew 25:41 KJV

[41] Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

https://bible.com/bible/1/mat.25.41.KJV

This is just an introduction, friends. Even now, I have given more than most can receive. For years I have been working under a banner of Bethlehem, “The House of Bread” but for understanding what lies ahead, we should speak from the House of Steak.

Selah, Shalom. (As the Lord gives, so will I share more, but this might require a re-study of the entire Word of GOD)

2 Timothy 2:1-26 KJV

[1] Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. [2] And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. [3] Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. [4] No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. [5] And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully. [6] The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits. [7] Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things. [8] Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel: [9] wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound. [10] Therefore I endure all things for the elect’s sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. [11] It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him: [12] if we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us: [13] if we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself. [14] Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers. [15] Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. [16] But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. [17] And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenæus and Philetus; [18] who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some. [19] Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. [20] But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. [21] If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work. [22] Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. [23] But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes. [24] And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, [25] in meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; [26] and that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

Note for 20250708

We are so blessed to have the opportunity to study the Word of GOD, and we know that it has been written that in the latter days there will be a famine for the Word of GOD. In some measure, we can say, because of false teachings, that it has partly set in already. For, of all the voices, who shall one hear? Hence, I say, reading the Word is still available, for the Holy Spirit will remind you of all Jesus said.

Today’s reading, once more, is so rich in teaching that many sermons can be preached. I invite you again, find the audio version of this on YouTube. There will be more that I share there.

2 Timothy 2:19-20 KJV

[19] Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. [20] But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.

https://bible.com/bible/1/2ti.2.19-20.KJV

GOD knows His own. We are not left with hope in what we can achieve, for we are not left to our own devices, but have a Heavenly Father that will plead with us. It is GOD that gives and strengthens faith. However, see who must depart from iniquity. Wood or silver, which cup are you?

His sheep knows the Voice of the Shepherd and will follow him. And as the first fruit of the resurrection, we ought to follow Him in that too. Jesus showed the way, friends. As Paul is heading to that journey, he comforts Timothy in the knowledge of what follows. Our hope is not of this world, but we look forward to the redemption to be with GOD, through our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Do you walk after the Spirit or the flesh? Is the law of GOD and the testimony of Jesus Christ with you? Maybe, I should state it just a bit more clearly, and I will do it like this: if the flesh cannot enter into the kingdom of GOD, nor the riches of this world, which is material, can you take a book or a phone with you? The Word of GOD is to be in you. If then a vessel, what do you contain? Good works are the result of a heart set right and filled with the Word of GOD, for the Holy Spirit will lead you in Christ.

Now, as Paul is urging Timothy to remember all that he taught him, so do I urge you. For, dust will return to dust, rendering to this world it’s own. But, render unto God what is His, and is it not by the breath of GOD that man became a living soul? (Genesis 2:7) Is the Word not that which rides the winds of breath? By their fruit shall you know them, purify them with your words. For what the heart is full of will flow from the lips. Purge that which is not of GOD and drink in all that is of GOD, eat the Word like bread. (No, not to say you must eat paper, but what is on it, the Word, brings it into the heart.)

Once more, it is not me you need to follow, but do not neglect to follow Jesus Christ. If you do not follow, how can you come to where He is? In Word and deed, follow, so you may follow also through the grave and resurrection even unto ascension in redemption. Is it not written that the dead in Christ will rise first?

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 KJV

[16] For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: [17] then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

https://bible.com/bible/1/1th.4.16-17.KJV

Paul also says right after this that we should comfort one another with these words. But also receive this:

Revelation 20:6 KJV

[6] Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

https://bible.com/bible/1/rev.20.6.KJV

It is not a retirement village we are heading to, friends. It is more like a birth, it is a renewal to what GOD intended. It is on the other side of what we call “sleeping in Christ” and the world calls death. The Father knows His own, and in no means will He leave His own to remain in the dust.

Psalm 16:10-11 KJV

[10] For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; Neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. [11] Thou wilt shew me the path of life: In thy presence is fulness of joy; At thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

https://bible.com/bible/1/psa.16.10-11.KJV

It’s like David knew, hey? We must remember, the Holy Spirit came upon David, when Samuel anointed him. He knew.

Now we walk this earth, knowing in part, but one day, we will know and be known in full. Now we look as if through a glass dimly lit, but we will see clear, when we are redeemed. We believe in what is unseen as yet, but that which will manifest before us, with a shout, and as lightning lights up the heavens, the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of GOD. And it is here where I ask you friends, do you think Paul would tell the Thessalonians and keep it secret from the one he called his beloved son?

Paul is encouraging Timothy here, even to be as a soldier for Christ, not to consider his own affairs but to stand for Him for Whom he fights. He is preparing Timothy for when he is no longer there. Yes, we see Paul as Timothy’s mentor, but also in a way as a father would speak to his loving son, knowing of what is coming. In this letter, we can learn from this conversation by Paul’s reminder of the teaching he has received. If we have a hope for the same, then we can take this for us.

Selah, Shalom

But let us expand it today so we get the full context:

Galatians 6:1-5 KJV

[1] Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. [2] Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. [3] For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself. The House of Bread · Note for 20250707 – Sons in Faith – Part 11 – 2 Timothy 1 – No Fear

2 Timothy 1:1-18 KJV

[1] Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus, [2] To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. [3] I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day; [4] greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy; [5] when I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also. [6] Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. [7] For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. [8] Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; [9] who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, [10] but is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel: [11] whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles. [12] For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. [13] Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. [14] That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us. [15] This thou knowest, that all they which are in Asia be turned away from me; of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes. [16] The Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus; for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain: [17] but, when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found me. [18] The Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day: and in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.

https://bible.com/bible/1/2ti.1.1-18.KJV

Note for 20250707

As we head into the second letter by Paul to Timothy, it is beneficial to know that this is much later than the first letter. Paul is in Rome, to appear before Nero for a second time. So, it is much later.

To understand the context of the second letter, it helps to have a bit of the back story, which you can look into with a bit of self-study, and it is my hope that I can make some resources available to you on the Blogspot post. Paul is believed to have been released as a prisoner after his first appearance in Rome, and even that he continued with his evangelistic ministry. (After the Book of Acts, which we will be reading after this letter.) Paul, captured and brought to Rome, after the Great Fire in Rome which began on July 19th, 64 AD. Now it is important to distinguish that some of this information comes from historical sources, and not from Biblical sources. It is believed that the Christians were accused of the starting the fire, while the sentiment was at the time that Nero started the fire himself to clear some land to build some great dome thing (which I do not have too much want to share about since it is not Biblical sources that brings this to us.) However, the records that are given some credit have Paul beheaded outside the city (since he was a Roman citizen) which was considered a more honourable execution than some of the horrific ways other Christian in that time were executed. (Somewhere between 64-68 AD)

With that out of the way, we can now look at this second letter and understand a little closer what the sentiment of this letter was. This is almost as a departing letter from Paul to Timothy, whom he outright calls my son in today’s reading, meaning that it was as a full adoption in the faith at least. Paul doesn’t write again to state that it is by the common faith, but there is a hint regarding his “laying on of the hands on Timothy for gifting.)

Which brings us now to the focus verse for today:

2 Timothy 1:7 KJV

[7] For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

https://bible.com/bible/1/2ti.1.7.KJV

Having heard all this before, how much more significance do you give this common and often shared scripture now? Because now you know that this letter is somewhat of a letter from Paul to Timothy from “death row.” Paul encourages Timothy, starting in verse 8:

2 Timothy 1:8-9 KJV

[8] Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; [9] who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

https://bible.com/bible/1/2ti.1.8-9.KJV

“…be thou a partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of GOD…” a partaker, it is not quite the prosperity teaching we get in the world today, is it? Now, friends, there is a reason I am so strongly focused on this today. Look at this:

John 16:13 KJV

[13] Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

https://bible.com/bible/1/jhn.16.13.KJV

Most of us (not all) have known relative peace in the period of our faith in Jesus Christ. Without going into too much detail of why I say “relative peace,” I mean that the opposition has largely been disguised and not like these early Christians like Paul faced. But, the Spirit filled believer today has this almost “nagging” sense of coming persecution, just as it is prophesied in the Word of GOD. Those that have been called to a preparation in the Spirit for a time such as this have specific instruction within us, not?

No fear. Paul boldly proclaims the essence of the “no fear” sentiment in this chapter as he approaches his trial. The truth is that we have already seen this start in the Middle-East, more specifically in Syria, which has gone largely unreported in mainstream. But of late we even had the report of Christian beheadings in Africa. Jip, I am speaking of the 70 that was left in the church, with details that are too gruesome to write here, but many of you have heard of it. The world sentiment against Israel is reported, and even more now make their return to Israel at this moment. But, don’t be mistaken, sentiment against the Christian is surely rising too. And just as Paul and others like him were hated back then for their “anti-social” beliefs in Roman culture and monotheistic beliefs in a polytheistic environment, so do we see a rise in wickedness and godlessness. Of course, we are also portrayed (even from within our faith, by those who have list the way) as brutal, contrarians and separatists, which the doctrine does not confirm. We are instead called to live in peace with all.

Romans 12:18 KJV

[18] If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

https://bible.com/bible/1/rom.10.14.KJV

And this is just to give you one reference. We recently looked at praying for all people.

We are thus in some time of a rise in what many would consider a dark kingdom, the coming of the night, that Christ referred to as when no man can work. And though most will not hear me, nor heed my call to Spiritual preparation, in other words, that which is laid on you by the Spirit of GOD, I have a responsibility to say the words, “Get Ready!”

But as Paul writes to Timothy at the end of his journey, I am writing to the church to remember that our Salvation, both in the now and of what is to come is in the hands of GOD. Minding then also, that which comes by the Spirit of GOD, and a reminder that it is in love, not hate or fear.

To make this matter as clear as possible, I bring you a concept to keep within you. In self-defence, shall we exchange the saved soul in exchange for him of which this matter is unknown? In conclusion to the written note for today I want to leave you with this:

Revelation 12:11 KJV

[11] And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

What does this mean? Shall we run from death, if it carries with it a promise to be reunited with our Lord and Saviour and our Father GOD in heaven?

The House of Bread · Note for 20250706 – Sons in Faith – Part 10 – 1 Timothy 6 – Masters & Servants

1 Timothy 6:1-21 KJV

[1] Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed. [2] And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort. [3] If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; [4] he is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, [5] perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself. [6] But godliness with contentment is great gain. [7] For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. [8] And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. [9] But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. [10] For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. [11] But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. [12] Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. [13] I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession; [14] that thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: [15] which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; [16] who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen. [17] Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; [18] that they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; [19] laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life. [20] O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called: [21] which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen. The first to Timothy was written from Laodicea, which is the chiefest city of Phrygia Pacatiana.

1 Timothy 6:6-8 KJV

[6] But godliness with contentment is great gain. [7] For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. [8] And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

https://bible.com/bible/1/1ti.6.6-8.KJV

I cannot help myself but ask, “What are you living for?” The title of today’s note might be strange to some, for others it will remind them of a song; but the one who is a slave will know how he is bound under a yoke of demand, having no control over much of his days. Now, I must inform you that misunderstanding may bring you to a thought of discontentment. You see, modern language has disguised the state of things. So, I will ask you like this, who has control of your days? By whose demands are you moved away from that which you would rather be doing?

(This is not the only subject in this morning’s reading, but because of deception, it will get the greater part of consideration today.)

Have you got an answer to my question yet? Who directs your days, in other words, who is the master and who is servant? Now just in case you think, “where is this coming from?”

1 Timothy 6:14-15 KJV

“…our Lord Jesus Christ: [15] which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate (ruler/sovereign,) the King of kings, and Lord of lords;”

Now, Paul is speaking to Timothy about the matter of masters and slaves at the opening of this chapter, but remember, chapters and verses were only added much later to the Bible, so in truth, all of this is one letter Timothy received from Paul. He gives instructions on both, working for a believing master and a non-believing master. So, the focus of this note started out with the section of being content with what you have, and later Timothy is reminded that Jesus Christ is the sovereign, King of kings and Lord of lords.

If you truly want to understand this we might have to swap out the term master for boss or manager. And of course, even the manager has a boss, because he gets payment, for which he gave up his time and labour for reward. And, at the top of this, there is the owner (CEO or business owner,) which resembles somewhat of a pyramid scheme. There is a top down control system, where those at the top profit from those beneath them. I suppose, a person could by this then also ask, who is masters in this world then?

Be content with what you have. It is such a profound concept that the Word teaches us. Because in discontentment, we strive for more in this world. Do you see it yet? In contentment comes liberty, for you do not sell yourself for more than what you need.

Now, I know that this may bring conversations, and even this line of speaking is warned against by Paul to Timothy in today’s scripture. Those that are weary of their worldly work, do you feel like a slave? It is very important to find the real slave driver, in this want for more. You see, Paul speaks of contentment, and some cannot have contentment with the basics and a world designed to fuel the want for more through advertising, to culture “to envy” and “to covet” in a “be all you can be” and “have your dreams come true” kind of way, fueling in itself the lusts of the flesh. The worldly systems are designed to lure man into sin, especially our modern age designs. The mobile phone or car you have is never good enough, right? There is always a better and newer version available, right? Even the very base of concern has been altered of what qualifies as a need, and modern life considers luxuries as needs.

1 Timothy 6:5 KJV

[5] perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.

https://bible.com/bible/1/1ti.6.5.KJV

“…gain is godliness…” is that not how this world works? And I say that in disagreement, for gain is often the source of wickedness, or it comes by wickedness. How often are the houses of the rich furnished by the efforts and strife of the poor? It is a concept masked in the modern age. To give to the poor is to make a loan to GOD, according to Solomon. What is gained from the poor then? Some of it has become so corrupt that it is a requirement by law.

Now that you have seen the world as it is, let us look at the beginning of this chapter again.

1 Timothy 6:1-2 KJV

[1] Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed. [2] And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort.

https://bible.com/bible/1/1ti.6.1-2.KJV

How far have we got in this chapter? It is full of rich teaching by Paul to Timothy and he exhorts Timothy to stand in these things for the sake of the church. In the Voice recording of this note, I hope to get into a bit more of this, as we finish with this letter today.

1 Timothy 6:11-14 KJV

[11] But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. [12] Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. [13] I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession; [14] that thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ:

https://bible.com/bible/1/1ti.6.11-14.KJV

Like Paul to Timothy, so I to you, brothers and sisters of the common faith in Jesus Christ. We are in this world, but not of it. And because we are not of this world, we must be able to tell what is the world’s and what is GOD’S. Render unto the masters of this world what is theirs, but unto God what is His. As long as there is need, we will interact and sojourn here in the world, and in our exchange with this world, we are called to exemplary conduct, as Paul lists to Timothy. But, the day will come when there is no more master over the soul, when the soul goes to be with GOD. Choose thus not a god of this world, not by want or greed.

1 Timothy 6:7 KJV

[7] For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.

https://bible.com/bible/1/1ti.6.7.KJV

It is helpful to remain in the reminder that our reward is with Christ.

Verse of The Day

From the YouVersion Bible App (Expanded from verse 6)

Romans 8:6-8 KJV

[6] For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. [7] Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. [8] So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

Quick Note:

I wanted to expand the verse of the day for you. In fact, for those who do not know, Romans 8 can serve as the chain that links to our Anchor in Jesus Christ. Do not hold on to one verse only from this remarkable chapter, hold on to it all.

The House of Bread · Note for 20250604 – Sons in Faith – Part 9 – 1 Timothy 5 – Widows and Elders

1 Timothy 5:1-25 NASB2020

[1] Do not sharply rebuke an older man, but rather appeal to him as a father, and to the younger men as brothers, [2] to the older women as mothers, and to the younger women as sisters, in all purity. [3] Honor widows who are actually widows; [4] but if any widow has children or grandchildren, they must first learn to show proper respect for their own family and to give back compensation to their parents; for this is acceptable in the sight of God. [5] Now she who is actually a widow and has been left alone has set her hope on God, and she continues in requests and prayers night and day. [6] But she who indulges herself in luxury is dead, even while she lives. [7] Give these instructions as well, so that they may be above reproach. [8] But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. [9] A widow is to be put on the list only if she is not less than sixty years old, having been the wife of one man, [10] having a reputation for good works; and if she has brought up children, if she has shown hospitality to strangers, if she has washed the saints’ feet, if she has assisted those in distress, and if she has devoted herself to every good work. [11] But refuse to register younger widows, for when they feel physical desires alienating them from Christ, they want to get married, [12] thereby incurring condemnation, because they have ignored their previous pledge. [13] At the same time they also learn to be idle, as they go around from house to house; and not merely idle, but also they become gossips and busybodies, talking about things not proper to mention. [14] Therefore, I want younger widows to get married, have children, manage their households, and give the enemy no opportunity for reproach; [15] for some have already turned away to follow Satan. [16] If any woman who is a believer has dependent widows, she must assist them and the church must not be burdened, so that it may assist those who are actually widows. [17] The elders who lead well are to be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching. [18] For the Scripture says, “You shall not muzzle the ox while it is threshing,” and “The laborer is worthy of his wages.” [19] Do not accept an accusation against an elder except on the basis of two or three witnesses. [20] Those who continue in sin, rebuke in the presence of all, so that the rest also will be fearful of sinning. [21] I solemnly exhort you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus and of His chosen angels, to maintain these principles without bias, doing nothing in a spirit of partiality. [22] Do not lay hands upon anyone too quickly and thereby share responsibility for the sins of others; keep yourself free from sin. [23] Do not go on drinking only water, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent ailments. [24] The sins of some people are quite evident, going before them to judgment; for others, their sins follow after. [25] Likewise also, deeds that are good are quite evident, and those which are otherwise cannot be concealed.

Note for 20250604

In today’s reading there are two headings which have been combined for the note’s heading, but it speaks to so much more than just these two concerns. In fact, it speaks to some matters that might be hard for some, as some were hard for me to hear. It reminds me once more, not to leave the beam in my own eye unnoticed. It speaks heavily regarding provisions, and many might be shamed without me having to speak deeper on these subjects.

I suppose, a plain approach on today’s scripture would be to ask this question: Who is responsible for what, in these concerns? Who qualifies for assistance? And right there, seeing this also looks at the responsibility of the church, many fail to qualify and once more my sentiment is drawn to another question, “What is compassion?”

Maybe it is proper to also ask this question, “If GOD has forgiven and we forgive, are the trespasses to be remembered?” You see, if there was a foolishness in a person when he or she was young and they have come to repentance and are now living according to the common faith, do we disqualify (a widow for instance) of receiving assistance? What about the young widow, who Paul states is better to get married again, what if Noone will have her as wife? Or, if a widow has children that can care for her, but they neglect that responsibility, to whom does that responsibility fall then? There is also the question of whether a stepdaughter or daughter in law are also daughters of that widow? Once more, I can’t help myself from considering the matter of forgiveness, if there are outstanding disagreements within the hearts of those who are supposed to care for such a widow. Of course, we know that Jesus said concerning the reason He taught us to pray, that if we do not forgive, then neither shall our Father in heaven forgive us. That in itself opens a discussion on, “Who forgives, seeing that GOD has poured out of His Spirit in us?” One can even go as far as to ask, if we can not forgive, if the Spirit of GOD is in us at all?

Friends, please note that I have not even touched on what is written in the scripture of today yet, I am merely painting the stage for consideration of what we have heard. How many can walk away from this conversation without a finger painting straight at our chest? What a phenomenal scripture did we just hear? Does it not have all the instructions regarding social responsibilities, but also touching on matters of the faith, even a measure of how far we still fall short from righteousness in our own selves? I wonder if I even qualify to speak on these matters, for in my view, I risk speaking as a hypocrite.

Who is speaking on it though? It almost seems like a “forgotten” chapter in the modern church, and yet, it may bring relief to the church, if order is brought in on these topics. Or, maybe, it is because the modern church has cast off their care for widows and scorn the elders, muzzling the oxes. How do we then speak on the matter of the elderly?

Are we not called by the Word to be sober minded? In neglecting our responsibilities towards one another, are we sober of mind or have we become like a drunk man?

I do not qualify to speak on this matter, friends. So, we will let the scripture speak today, so I may have a look at this log, this beam I have found in my eye too. Right now, I am not beyond reproach, but I do have this concern, if I do not speak on it, who will? When was the last time you heard a sermon on this?

Oh, I would be better off to look at the variance I found in verse 12 of the NASB2020 (duplicated in the NIV,) from the KJV. That I can speak on, but do I now deflect from the message of today? While I might not stand in authority to speak on today’s scripture, the Word does. So, I will give you this chapter from the KJV.

1 Timothy 5:1-25 KJV

[1] Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren; [2] the elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity. [3] Honour widows that are widows indeed. [4] But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God. [5] Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day. [6] But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth. [7] And these things give in charge, that they may be blameless. [8] But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel. [9] Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man, [10] well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints’ feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work. [11] But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry; [12] having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith. [13] And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not. [14] I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully. [15] For some are already turned aside after Satan. [16] If any man or woman that believeth have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be charged; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed. [17] Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine. [18] For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward. [19] Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses. [20] Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear. [21] I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality. [22] Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men’s sins: keep thyself pure. [23] Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine often infirmities. [24] Some men’s sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after. [25] Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid.

Let the Word establish the Word. As much as I wanted to bring you the Word in a plain language, in good conscience, I will revert back to the KJV going forward. I will continue to search for a version that is reliable in speaking English, and if you can give suggestions, I would appreciate it. I will test it.

I would also like to invite all to the Voice recordings of the Note, where we will be looking at today’s chapter in greater detail. It will only be available on Sunday on YouTube search for @houseofLechem for the channel.
