Matthew 6 KJV

Matthew 6:6-18 KJV – The Lord’s Prayer

[6] But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. [7] But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. [8] Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him. [9] After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. [10] Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. [11] Give us this day our daily bread. [12] And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. [13] And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. [14] For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: [15] but if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. [16]  Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. [17] But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; [18] that thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.

Note for 20240927

As a child, I was brought up going to one of the more conservative protestant church denominations. I still remember the method of the service, the standing up and sitting down, the declaration of faith and the reading of the law. The singing of songs as the standing up and sitting down continued, until the offering plates made their rounds pass every one that congregated for the sermon. Depending on the time of year, the sermon was usually more or less anticipated, just like Sunday school after the service. One of the things that was done each Sunday in this process, was saying the Lord’s Prayer, in my mother tongue, well rehearsed, even at the tempo of the minister. I remember then even, it felt too rehearsed for me; as if something was missing. Even as a child, it seemed that it was just something people in the community did by habit. I remember hearing of the Pharisees, when I was old enough to be distracted by guided thoughts, how much it was as if I was reading about those that stood around me, in their Sunday best clothing, even the hats the women then still wore to church. Outside, waiting to take us home, spit and polished, the family “Sunday car.”

Let me give you a few verses from Yesterday’s reading in Matthew 6.

[5] And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

You see friends, in all the time that I have participated in that almost ritualistic pattern, even saying this prayer that Christ gave us to pray, I can’t recall even once hearing the verses that I just quoted here. Maybe it was read out, while I was counting the ceiling tiles overhead.

You see, I also saw many of those in church when they were not in their Sunday-best. The words and deeds of the rest of the week. It felt like a scam, even the high vocabulary used whenever the minister, elder or deacon was around.

Today, the Lord’s prayer has become my favorite prayer to pray. You see, now I know what it means, but more so, Who Christ is who gave this prayer for us to pray. As soon as I was old enough to determine for myself where I could go, I started searching for a church that had the “something” I felt missing in our family church. This search led me to some wild places, even radical separatists; but, it usually didn’t take long before I would see the shortcomings in what was preached and practiced.

In my hour of need, when I fell down on my knees; I found what I was always looking for was near. Right beside me, even deep within me. I suppose, some people must face true darkness, before they are willing to look within. So, I recorded that as the date of my repentance, 17 March 1990. It is the Lord that later reminded me of the first time I gave my heart to him, very young sitting on the lap of my Father as he was reading to me from the children’s Bible about King Solomon.

So today, you get a little more of my testimony, but the focus is on the Lord’s prayer. For all that you have to say to our Father in Heaven is in it. Now I say these words by choice, knowing what they mean. And as I say, “Thine is the Kingdom” I know that I have given Christ my crown. That He is my King and I His servant.

Do not let your faith only be a measure of habit, repeat and rinse again. But, when you rise in church, know Who you rise for. Before you rise, know there comes a moment where you are on your knees without any other hope. Of all the things we as Christians monitor in our lives, hypocrisy should be high on our list. Not in others, but in ourselves. It just happens to be one of the topics Christ spoke out against most often. What we do, we must do for real. For even a child can see a hypocrite, and with too little knowledge to make a sound conclusion, that child may be sent into years of searching, for Who has always been near.

There is a saying in the world, “it takes a village to raise a child.” But, I want to change that this morning, that it takes an honest church. When we stand in pretense, we may confuse children. Instead of walking in high and mighty ways of ritualistic behavior, maybe we should show each other that we are just as desperate for the Salvation in Christ as they sense inside. I did not force my children to go to church, instead I worked on the beam in my eye, even showing them my own vulnerabilities. I was real with them, and I trust GOD for their Salvation as much as I trust Him for mine. Out of their own they went to church. On their own they decided to participate and get more involved. And when it is time to eat they fetch my hand for prayer. Living a fake life, may set others back in their journey, and I cannot have peace within that. So have they become, not just children, but fellow brothers and sisters in the Faith of Jesus Christ.

So as we pray the Lord’s prayer, try and remember; it is the Son of GOD Almighty, teaching us to speak to His Father in Heaven. All we need to say to Our Father in Heaven is contained in these few words. But, if it is not met with intent, they become words of pretend.

May the Holy Spirit of GOD Almighty go with you this day.

Shalom

Verse of The Day

(YouVersion – Expanded from verse 12)

1 Timothy 4:11-16 KJV

[11] These things command and teach. [12] Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. [13] Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. [14] Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. [15] Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. [16] Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

https://bible.com/bible/1/1ti.4.11-16.KJV

Note on this extraction

This scripture was literally spoken out over me with the laying on of the hands by the elders in church when I was still young in the faith.

The Lord knows us, He knows our hearts and where we will grow up to stand. We are called, according to His purpose. Our Names, written in the Book of Life, even before we were born. He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. There is no mystery for Him. Thy Will be done my LORD, for Your pleasure and purpose alone. Amen

From Psalms

Psalm 103:1-22 KJV

[1] Bless the LORD, O my soul: And all that is within me, bless his holy name. [2] Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget not all his benefits: [3] Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; Who healeth all thy diseases; [4] Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; Who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; [5] Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; So that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s. [6] The LORD executeth righteousness and judgment For all that are oppressed. [7] He made known his ways unto Moses, His acts unto the children of Israel. [8] The LORD is merciful and gracious, Slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. [9] He will not always chide: Neither will he keep his anger for ever. [10] He hath not dealt with us after our sins; Nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. [11] For as the heaven is high above the earth, So great is his mercy toward them that fear him. [12] As far as the east is from the west, So far hath he removed our transgressions from us. [13] Like as a father pitieth his children, So the LORD pitieth them that fear him. [14] For he knoweth our frame; He remembereth that we are dust. [15]  As for man, his days are as grass: As a flower of the field, so he flourisheth. [16] For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; And the place thereof shall know it no more. [17] But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, And his righteousness unto children’s children; [18] To such as keep his covenant, And to those that remember his commandments to do them. [19] The LORD hath prepared his throne in the heavens; And his kingdom ruleth over all. [20] Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, That do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word. [21] Bless ye the LORD, all ye his hosts; Ye ministers of his, that do his pleasure. [22] Bless the LORD, all his works in all places of his dominion: Bless the LORD, O my soul.

Matthew 6:1-8 KJV – Glory

[1]  Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. [2] Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. [3] But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: [4] that thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly. [5]  And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. Note for 20240926

But now, everything is a marketing opportunity, isn’t it? Is that not what we see? And man has fallen in the same habit as what companies use, for they blast their life out for public spectacle saying, “like and follow me. Subscribe to me.” What is it that we sell, our soul? Is it our words and opinions; that it is in the same way or form more and/or more valuable than those of others? Are we making that which is meant to be in secret public for our own benefit? Am I doing the same, by writing here? Shall I then keep quiet, keep what I have learned from the Word of GOD for myself alone, that I may receive some reward for myself? Is this an alm from me, or from He who sent me? I am not public for my sake, but for the Kingdom of GOD.

We are supposed to learn from the Word of GOD, right? We are to investigate our motives, right?!Look at the beam in our own eyes, before attempting to remove a splinter from our brother’s eye. Whose Name is being honored here? Is it not the Name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ? If you have the Holy Spirit of GOD, you don’t need me. GOD gave a donkey the ability to speak, addressing Balaam. So see me then like a donkey, but hear the Word of GOD.

Remember, we are looking at the sermon on the mount for the Words of Christ, in response to what we read in the book of Revelation. Are we hot or cold, or have we become lukewarm mixing the Word of GOD with the words of this world? I am not interested to know what you think of me, my hope is that you will see Christ who saved me. I am not paraded in public, nor do I stand on some pedestal. Most of you do not even know my name. It is this very chapter that says that the left hand should jot know what the right hand is doing in giving alms. Gold and silver, I do not have; but what I have, I give to you in the Name of Jesus Christ. Stand up and walk according to the Way He has shown.

Even so, it might be wise to take a moment to investigate myself, so that my own motives remain pure. If not, I may just become just another beating drum that makes a noise in the ears of man, and heaven knows, there is far too much of that. When you read the Word of GOD, is it to judge others, or for you yourself to learn a better way?

In prayer, do you pray for others? Does it have to be in public? Is it a shopping list of things, and by whose will do we pray? Do we pray to GOD our Father, or in the sight of men?

Tomorrow, we will look at the Lord’s prayer. May GOD take pity on us, may He show us mercy and grace.

Shalom

Matthew 5 KJV

Matthew 5:43-48 KJV – Love Thine Enemy

[43]  Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. [44] But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; [45] that ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. [46] For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? [47] And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? [48] Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

https://bible.com/bible/1/mat.5.43-48.KJV

Note for 20240925

I wonder sometimes, while considering the Word, what the report card of those alive today would be with the Lord Jesus Christ. For, I see hate even there where love is to be expected. People hating those that love them, shall we then speak to the younger generation? It appears that some hate everyone all the same. I am tempted to use the phrase, “when I was your age…” Is it a lack of discipline, or is it in itself, a lack of love? Maybe, just maybe, it is due to children being orphaned even though they might have two parents at home, due to a lack of communication and interaction? That, without considering those childless relationships, by choice. Is love still love, or has it simply become a matter of convenience?

Today, while we read how Christ sets the standard that we should love our enemy, I am urging you to love those that even the publicans (tax-collectors) are said to love. Maybe, if we can start to love those who love us, we can work our way up to love our enemies. What is love and who are our enemies? What is the love of GOD, because it is explained here in the text. GOD sent His Son for sinners. Enemies? Who do you perceive as the enemy? Can you yourself be your own enemy? Does treason against yourself play out each and every day? And if hate is at home, how do you take love out into the world? How do you love your neighbour as yourself, when you are hateful to yourself? How many self-sabotage?

1 John 4 KJV

[16] And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. [17] Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. [18] There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. [19] We love him, because he first loved us.

Matthew 25 KJV

[40] And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

So maybe, it is not simply a loveless thing we see play out before us in this world, but rather a Godless thing? Is that fair to say? How, then, do we “fix” this without GOD? The answer is, we can’t. This world suffers from a lack of faith in Christ, even a lack of knowledge of the Truth in a world saturated in confusions and lies. Can you have compassion for those who have been deceived?

Who then will go to them and share the knowledge of Truth? When love departs from the House of GOD, what hope does this world have? The fact of the matter is that it starts within our very own hearts. Charity starts at home, and then flows out all the way to bring hope to hopeless places.

Can we love our enemy? Only you can know the answer in you, and that will determine who you are.

Shalom

Psalm 139:1-6 KJV

[1] O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me. [2] Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. [3] Thou compassest my path and my lying down, And art acquainted with all my ways. [4] For there is not a word in my tongue, But, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether. Matthew 5:33-42 KJV – Oaths and Judgment

[33]  Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths: [34] but I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God’s throne: [35] nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. [36] Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black. [37] But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil. [38]  Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: [39] but I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. [40] And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also. [41] And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain. [42] Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

Mattityahu (Mat) 5:33 CJB

[33] “Again, you have heard that our fathers were told, ‘Do not break your oath,’ and ‘Keep your vows to Adonai.’

https://bible.com/bible/1275/mat.5.33.CJB

Yesterday, we looked at adultery, also from the perspective of divorce. Today, besides it being so much more, we are looking at that which has become part of marriage, at both ends of it. From the vow, to the court, in settlement of who gets what in the separation. I say again, it is much more than just this.

I, myself, find it interesting how these in Matthew 5 follow one another in the ministry of Christ. Then I considered how divorced couples treat one another after the divorce is through. Do you remember the note on “Thou shalt not kill?” What is said to a child about their mother or their father in the process of divorce? Remember the Law to honor thy mother and thy father? Do we encourage children to break the law because of sour grapes and injured egos

It is further interesting that GOD would get me to write on this to you, for I come from a broken home and have been divorced myself. What is the testimony of my mouth? What GOD has brought together, let no man separate it. I have also seen the devil in things.

But this section of the text is so much more than just applying it to divorce alone, even though it is such a good example of this. You see, this world likes to bind things with an oath, even as you would have to swear before GOD that your testimony is true when entering the court of man, or on any legal document. Who is the adversary, who is the accuser of men? Let your communication be, Ye, ye; Nay, nay, for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil. What I want you to see today, is how this world requires more from you than just a yes or no. In law enforcement, this seems to fit the description of entrapment. As if, the current ruler of this world wants to bind mankind with curses. Now, my ye have become ye, and my nay, nay; for I do not follow the prince of this world, but the King to come. Come, Lord Jesus, come. In the manner of all that comes against us now, I will turn the cheek, give my garments and carry what is requested of me even to the second mile. For here, the moth and rust destroy, but our treasures in heaven are stored up for an eternity with GOD. No, I shall walk in love, mercy and grace, from GOD The Father unto me, and I, the vessel of it to those I meet. No, I will not give in to the ways of this world; I will forgive, just as I have been forgiven of all my errors.

Man is accursed by this world of iniquity and evil, I will not hold a charge against any man, woman or child. No, GOD is my vengeance, he will judge all fairly and just. If emotion is required in anything, may it be love that flows from me, in the Name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Shalom

Romans 3:21-26 KJV

[21] But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; [22] even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: [23] for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; [24] being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: [25] whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; [26] to declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

The subjects of the sermon on the mount, touch the very deepest parts of the shame of mankind. So, I am indeed aware that these are things we might not want to hear, even that we may want to ignore, but it was important enough that Christ spoke on it. For the sake of our souls, we should try to hear what is being said, instead of feeling offended about the topic.

[27]  Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: [28] but I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. [29] And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. [30] And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. [31] It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement: [32] but I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.

Note for 20240923

Oh, what is marriage? You know, it is the one thing people do not want to talk about, or hear the truth about. Maybe, I myself am guilty of being too opinionated about it, let’s then look at the first concept of marriage.

Genesis 1 KJV

[24] Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

This is recited often in congregations. And yet, something else is considered marriage by the customs of man. Let’s see more.

Genesis 24 KJV

[63] And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the eventide: and he lifted up his eyes, and saw, and, behold, the camels were coming. [64] And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she lighted off the camel. [65] For she had said unto the servant, What man is this that walketh in the field to meet us? And the servant had said, It is my master: therefore she took a vail, and covered herself. [66] And the servant told Isaac all things that he had done. [67] And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah’s tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death.

Oh, they say this is another time and that things are different now. But, you can go and read more, of Jacob too and even the words of Christ to the woman at the well. What is marriage? Did the Lord Himself not say not to make a vow, let your yes be yes and your no be no?

Sure, our reading is on adultery, not on marriage per say, though it speaks on divorce too. The Word says that what God has put together, let no man separate. Also, we should love the wife of our youth. But, I want to ask you something, in truth and in private consideration: Is it GOD that brings people together to cleave unto each other in all cases, or does it come by the lust of the flesh? How soon do most of us become adulterers? Yet, read the account of Dinah, Abraham’s daughter and your heart will break in consideration. For Abraham gave Dinah, to him that violated her, as wife.

When Christ speaks on adultery, he equals the act with the thought of it. No wonder he speaks for taking out the eye or cutting off the right hand, in order to save the soul. Does it mean you must dismember yourself? Can you look away? Can you stop the action that brings you into judgment? Do you remember reading about the woman that was caught in the very act of adultery, that they brought to Christ for judgment?

John 8 KJV

[7] So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. [8] And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. [9] And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. [10] When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? [11] She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

Shall we then go, and sin no more? Because in Christ, we are forgiven by the act of atonement he made for us on the Cross. Who is without guilt? No, we are not without guilt, but our penalty was paid by Christ. Do you remember the woman at the well? How many did she have that was not her own husband? Christ did not condemn either of these women and yet, look at what His standard on adultery is here on the sermon of the mount.

All of us have guilt in some way or form. We all have transgressed against the Lord and our fellow man. None is without sin. While we cannot undo what we have done in the past, we can confess our sin and repent of it. Then go, and sin no more.

As for standards, Christ makes Himself clear here on the mount. Who can cast a stone? You know what, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ can. And even now in your heart, you say, “but He didn’t.” Oh! When the day of the Lord comes, He will. Woe unto all those who stand in unrepentance then.

The matter is not just in the act, but also in the thought of it. The lust of the flesh. Do you have any idea how blessed we are for this period of grace? Can we then repent and sin no more? For this, repentance and not sinning any more, is as pulling out the right eye or cutting off the right hand. Resist the devil, and he shall flee from you.

Friends, I know that there may be some that may even feel offended this morning. Remember, what is said here is said in love. It is not a stone cast, but rather a brief look at how we could be stoned. Just because a matter may be private now, does not mean that the Truth of it will never come out, nor that it is right in any way or form.

I was called to share the Word of GOD. Shall I then skip that in the Word of GOD that convicts even me? We do not skip chapters and verses, no! We read them and accept the Word of GOD and live by it. We walk after righteousness, purging evil from us wherever it is found, even in ourselves. Especially in ourselves, first.

Now that you have heard the Truth, what will you do about it? For most of you, it is not the first time you read this here. Is the pleading of the Lord on repeat? “And they repented not…” Do you remember reading it in the Book of Revelation?

Let this day then be the day that separates the days before, from this one and those to come by the grace of GOD.

Shalom

Verse of The Day

(Youversion expanded from verse 40)

Luke 12:32-40 KJV

[32]  Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. [33] Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth. [34] For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. [35] Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning; [36] and ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately. [37] Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them. [38] And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants. [39] And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through. [40] Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.

Luke 12:41-48 KJV

[41] Then Peter said unto him, Lord, speakest thou this parable unto us, or even to all? [42] And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season? [43] Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. [44] Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath. [45] But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken; [46] the lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. [47] And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. [48] But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.

Announcements

Due to maintenance to our power-grid in my town, we were down for a few hours yesterday. However, this does permit me to now do the work for the note each day, a day ahead of time. This has been a desire in my heart for a while now, so I have more hours in each day to work on the formatting of each note and compiling all that is related. With this in mind, pay attention on the blog for word-links to more information, which will be in either blue or red color.)

Matthew 5 KJV

Matthew 5:21-26 KJV – Thou shalt not kill

[21]  Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: [22] but I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire. [23] Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; [24] leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift. [25] Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison. [26] Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.

Note for 20240922

Let us start by clearing up some terms that may be unfamiliar to us. We find the word, “Raca” in verse 22, so let’s get the verse in the Complete Jewish Bible.

Mattityahu (Mat) 5:22 CJB

[22] But I tell you that anyone who nurses anger against his brother will be subject to judgment; that whoever calls his brother, ‘You good-for-nothing!’ will be brought before the Sanhedrin; that whoever says, ‘Fool!’ incurs the penalty of burning in the fire of Gei-Hinnom!

https://bible.com/bible/1275/mat.5.22.CJB

Besides learning the terms intended we also find the terms for “council” and also “hell fire.”  Then, when looking at verse 26, the same way, it ends in, “… every last penny.”

Let us look at the term “Gei-Hinnom” from the Jewish Bible that is translated into “hell fire” in the KJV.

GE-HINNOM, or GE BEN-(BENE-)HINNOM:

By: Emil G. Hirsch, Frants Buhl

Name of the valley to the south and south-west of Jerusalem (Josh. xv. 8, xviii. 16; Neh. xi. 30; II Kings xxiii. 10; II Chron. xxxiii. 6; Jer. vii. 31 et seq., xix. 2, xxxii. 35). Its modern name is “Wadi al-Rababah.” The southwestern gate of the city, overlooking the valley, came to be known as “the gate of the valley.” The valley was notorious for the worship of Moloch carried on there (comp. Jer. ii. 23). According to Jer. vii. 31 et seq., xix. 6 et seq., it was to be turned into a place of burial; hence “the accursed valley Ge-hinnom” (“Gehenna” in the N. T.) came to be synonymous with a place of punishment, and thus with hell (comp. Isa. lxvi. 24; Enoch, xxvi. et seq.; and the rabbinical Hebrew equivalent)

Reference link: https://www.jewishencyclopedia.com/articles/6559-ge-hinnom

In the same way, “Raca” is defined this way from the same site source as, “Noun formed from the adjective “reḳ” (=”empty”), and applied to a person without education and devoid of morals (comp. Judges xi. 3).”

Now that we have looked at these, let us consider the implications of what Christ was preaching on here. You see, today there are quite a few terms that can fit in here, like “idiot” and of course a few terms that are preferable not to write here. Things get said in the same vain, spoken from a place of entitlement, looking down on your fellow man. We forget far too soon, that we are the subject of God’s Love, (remember John 3:16) and things like these are said in a form of hate. Hate is literally the exact opposite of love and thus in counter to loving your neighbor as yourself and to love your enemy.

Here Christ places this in direct relation with murder. So, in short, Christ adds to the law, even just that which comes in a word, a thought and in the truth of a heart. This theme carries on in the rest of the sermon on the mount. It is not just about what is seen, but the source of both good and evil, love and hate, comes from within. Therefore, we can also bring it into alignment with the inner truth of everything. Even whether we truly believe, or if it is just an outward projection that is not a truth within the soul.

The question then is to ask ourselves, how does this relate to our lives? And I further suppose, the most common place where we may fail in this today can be found in things like road-rage, sports and politics. It is probably most common on social media and in comedy, where someone is the subject of such scorn. In fact, what Christ speaks of here has become common in every language, both formal and the slang of it. Yes, even in eloquent and proper speech there are seemingly polite ways to say exactly the same, maybe even with a smile, “to keep it civil.” Through this, we even find this in forms of gender, race and class discrimination. Truth is, this has become quite common, and Christ rates this at the level of murder.

Do you think maybe, a little more consideration can go into our speech patterns? Love would be best to enter in. What is “proper” to speak in the presence of the LORD your GOD, and Who is the Holy Spirit?

Shalom

Verse of The Day

(YouVersion – Expanded from verse 13)

Isaiah 41:8-20 KJV

[8] But thou, Israel, art my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend. [9] Thou whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, and called thee from the chief men thereof, and said unto thee, Thou art my servant; I have chosen thee, and not cast thee away. [10] Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. [11] Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall perish. [12] Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contended with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought. [13] For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee. [14] Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I will help thee, saith the LORD, and thy redeemer, the Holy One of Israel. [15] Behold, I will make thee a new sharp threshing instrument having teeth: thou shalt thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and shalt make the hills as chaff. [16] Thou shalt fan them, and the wind shall carry them away, and the whirlwind shall scatter them: and thou shalt rejoice in the LORD, and shalt glory in the Holy One of Israel. [17]  When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst, I the LORD will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them. [18] I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water. [19] I will plant in the wilderness the cedar, the shittah tree, and the myrtle, and the oil tree; I will set in the desert the fir tree, and the pine, and the box tree together: [20] that they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together, that the hand of the LORD hath done this, and the Holy One of Israel hath created it.

From Psalms

(Optional reading)

Psalm 104:1-35 KJV

[1] Bless the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, thou art very great; Thou art clothed with honour and majesty: [2] Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment: Who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain: [3] Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters: Who maketh the clouds his chariot: Who walketh upon the wings of the wind: [4] Who maketh his angels spirits; His ministers a flaming fire: [5]  Who laid the foundations of the earth, That it should not be removed for ever. [6] Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a garment: The waters stood above the mountains. [7] At thy rebuke they fled; At the voice of thy thunder they hasted away. [8] They go up by the mountains; they go down by the valleys Unto the place which thou hast founded for them. [9] Thou hast set a bound that they may not pass over; That they turn not again to cover the earth. [10] He sendeth the springs into the valleys, Which run among the hills. [11] They give drink to every beast of the field: The wild asses quench their thirst. [12] By them shall the fowls of the heaven have their habitation, Which sing among the branches. [13] He watereth the hills from his chambers: The earth is satisfied with the fruit of thy works. [14] He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, And herb for the service of man: That he may bring forth food out of the earth; [15] And wine that maketh glad the heart of man, And oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth man’s heart. [16] The trees of the LORD are full of sap; The cedars of Lebanon, which he hath planted; [17] Where the birds make their nests: As for the stork, the fir trees are her house. [18] The high hills are a refuge for the wild goats; And the rocks for the conies. [19] He appointed the moon for seasons: The sun knoweth his going down. [20] Thou makest darkness, and it is night: Wherein all the beasts of the forest do creep forth. [21] The young lions roar after their prey, And seek their meat from God. [22] The sun ariseth, they gather themselves together, And lay them down in their dens. [23] Man goeth forth unto his work And to his labour until the evening. [24] O LORD, how manifold are thy works! In wisdom hast thou made them all: The earth is full of thy riches. [25]  So is this great and wide sea, Wherein are things creeping innumerable, both small and great beasts. [26] There go the ships: There is that leviathan, Whom thou hast made to play therein. [27] These wait all upon thee; That thou mayest give them their meat in due season. [28]  That thou givest them they gather: Thou openest thine hand, they are filled with good. [29] Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: Thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust. [30] Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: And thou renewest the face of the earth. [31] The glory of the LORD shall endure for ever: The LORD shall rejoice in his works. [32] He looketh on the earth, and it trembleth: He toucheth the hills, and they smoke. [33] I will sing unto the LORD as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being. [34] My meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the LORD. [35] Let the sinners be consumed out of the earth, and let the wicked be no more. Bless thou the LORD, O my soul. Praise ye the LORD.
